Analysis and Design of Slabs
Analysis and Design of Slabs
Slabs are structural elements with a small thickness relative to their other dimensions. They carry loads primarily by flexure.
One-Way Slabs
A slab is considered one-way if the ratio of the longer span to the shorter span is greater than 2 (), or if supported on only two opposite edges. Design is similar to a 1-meter wide rectangular beam.
Two-Way Slabs
Two-way slabs are supported on all four sides with . Loads are transferred to supports in two orthogonal directions. Methods of analysis include:
- Direct Design Method (DDM)
- Equivalent Frame Method (EFM)
- Coefficient Method (NSCP/ACI simplified tables)
