Composite Behavior

Shear studs connect the deck to the girder. The concrete takes compression, and the steel takes tension, shifting the Neutral Axis (NA) up. This massively increases stiffness and capacity.

Strain discontinuity at the deck/girder interface indicates slip (Non-Composite).
A continuous strain line indicates perfect composite action.
